I totally agree with the need for scenery changes. I often find myself seeking out new cafés to get my work done in and get my best studying done when I hunker down in a café for an entire afternoon. The liveliness and bustle of people coming and going keeps me both awake and focused on my work and the company of some friends is always a nice distraction during short study breaks.

Hopefully you'll find the right dynamic for yourself without too much trouble. I'm sure there's an office out there just waiting for you! Best of luck on the search Skrud!

Dude, totally agree with you on the fact that areas with occasional distractions are a breeding ground for productivity and creativity. I was never the guy who could sit in the silent area of the library and just "study". I was the guy who would sit in the campus bar, drinking a cold pint, and spinning a pencil in one of my hands (or both, if reading).

Distractions are key.

Oh crap. That sucks then, cause I am almost as dynamic as you, moving around from place to place that it just wouldn't be right to sit still. :/ I also work well at a cafe, the noise doesn't bother me. ^__^ What to do... well another IBM Markham post opened up on co-op so I'm going to apply there to see if I can check out their Japanese Garden. :D

I understand how you feel, but I'm not on the same boat as you are. My best work is done in isolation. Probably because I'm very easily distracted (even white noise distracts me). But even I need to get out every once in a while for sanity's sake :-P

That's all I got.

Another agree with the "nice work on the blog" thing.

I'm totally with you on this one. I wish there were less walls at my workplace and more table sharing and whiteboarding and just interaction in general. Some of my favorite coding sessions are just crunching out code in the same room as some of my friends on the same project.

Nice work on the blog too, I need to start blogging soon. My only criticism is the bolding of random text is kind of irritating. Just not my cup of tea, I guess.
